Allstate Looking for 40 New Agency Owners in Michigan

October 20, 2010

Allstate Insurance Co. said it has launched a recruitment campaign to sign on 40 new agency owners in Michigan by the end of 2011.

In addition, the insurer said new and existing Michigan Allstate agencies are projected to hire approximately 200 licensed sales professionals (LSPs) through 2011. The company offers training or these positions.

Allstate currently has 360 agents in Michigan.

Allstate, the nation’s largest publicly held personal lines insurer, provides its new agents with insurance product education along with assistance in advertising, marketing and sales.

Candidates must have $50,000 in liquid capital to open a new Allstate agency.

“This is really a great time for us to attract people who are self-motivated, are goal- and success-oriented and who want to own their own business representing Allstate,” said Chris Markey, Allstate sales leader for Michigan. “Here in Michigan, we’ve had a lot of success recruiting agency owners from the auto dealership industry.”

“As an agency owner, you are on your own but not alone,” said Markey. “If you don’t have an insurance background, we’ll provide you with insurance education to help you hit the ground running. In addition, our agents have the independence to run their agency, hire and manage their staff, and set their direction while receiving support from one of the country’s largest insurance companies and most respected brands.”

Agents will have the opportunity to sell the company’s auto, property and financial services products

Allstate’s recruiting goals for Michigan in 2011 are for 20 new agencies in the metro Detroit area, 10 in western Michigan and 10 in central Michigan.

Allstate said these target areas are key to Allstate’s broader strategy to aggressively expand the provider’s auto insurance presence statewide, while staking a stronger claim in insurance markets for boats, recreational all-terrain-vehicles and motorcycles.

Allstate is currently the sixth-largest auto insurer in Michigan with 389,586 cars and trucks insured in the state.
