States in the Midwest were slammed on Wednesday by violent storms that produced high winds, hail and tornadoes. The severe weather is expected to continue today.
Large and destructive hail have caused the most damage so far, according to the Weather Channel, but damaging winds, flash flooding and tornadoes have also been reported.
Accuweather reported that ate least eight tornadoes were spotted yesterday and that twisters were reported in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
Grapefruit-size hail was reported around Sullivan, Mo., and hail up to the size of softballs was reported in Farmington, Mo., according to the Weather Channel.
The Missouri Department of Insurance is recommending that individuals and business owners who sustained property damage should immediately contact their insurance companies.
“The large hail that battered parts of Missouri yesterday is a strong reminder that the spring storm season is here,” said John M. Huff, director of the department. “For consumers with property damage, the time to act is now. Consumers should move quickly to protect their property and file claims with their insurance companies.”
