May 28, 2015

A Michigan insurance agent faces felony embezzlement charges following an investigation by the the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS).

After receiving a complaint from an insurance company, DIFS discovered that Vladimir Ivanovich Tatarly of Lake Orion was depositing money paid toward insurance premiums into his personal accounts, leaving customers without coverage.

The DIFS has summarily suspended Tatarly’s insurance producer license for violating numerous provisions of the Michigan Insurance Code.

Tartarly’s employer, J. Jacobs and Associates Inc., also uncovered the fraud and filed a complaint with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

DIFS said it found that Tatarly stole over $55,000 in customer funds resulting in the cancellation of several insurance policies for non-payment.

The Oakland County Prosecutor issued a warrant for Tatarly’s arrest charging him with four felonies including one count of embezzlement over $50,000, one count of false pretenses, and two counts of issuing fraudulent insurance certificates resulting in his arrest on May 21, 2015.
