Swett & Crawford Names Peterson to Head New Auto Program

Swett & Crawford appointed Robert Peterson as program manager for a new product, the Swett & Crawford Program for Contractors Auto, to be marketed with its carrier partner, Travelers Companies Inc.

Before joining Swett & Crawford, Peterson worked with Crum & Forster in San Francisco as special accounts underwriting manager, where he managed a $17 million book of large account workers’ compensation business. His focus was exclusively on accounts with loss pick of $750,000 or more. Peterson began his insurance career in 1977 with General Reinsurance Corp. in San Francisco as a casualty facultative underwriter where he developed an expertise in underwriting and negotiating excess of loss reinsurance contracts for commercial automobile, general liability, workers’ compensation, agri-business and construction contracts. During his tenure he had responsibilities involving client production and facultative program management in California, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii.

In 2003, Peterson joined PAUSE Services LLC and later ACE USA as assistant vice president and public entity underwriter handling excess liability for cities, counties, pools, special districts and non-profit agencies. Additionally, he handled marketing and new business development with wholesale and retail producers. He also previously served in the U.S. Navy Reserve retiring with the rank of Captain.

Commenting on the new program, Margaret Zechlin, executive vice president of underwriting, said: “This newest collaboration with Travelers combines the best of both organizations – its automobile products, loss control, claims management and financial strength with our experience in automobile underwriting.”
