Energi, National Interstate Launch Fuel Transport Program

April 14, 2009

Energi Holdings Inc. launched an alternative risk management program designed for the fuel transportation industry. The Energi program is available for companies with gasoline and/or distillate transporter operations, wholesale distribution (including terminal operations and brokered sales) or retail gasoline stations with convenience stores.

Energi’s Fuel Transport Captive Program offers coverage for commercial general liability, commercial automobile, and workers’ compensation. The program is administered by Energi Insurance Services Inc. and offered through National Interstate Insurance Company. Other lines, such as property, site pollution, crime, and liquor liability are offered through other carriers outside of the captive.

Energi’s Research & Development group adapted their Fuel Distribution model to produce this program. National Interstate and Energi have created a program that is designed to attract companies that embrace best practices. It provides the necessary coverages, value-added loss prevention and safety, aggressive claims management, fair equitable pricing, and encourages policyholder participation in their risk management and insurance program.

The Energi Fuel Transport Program is available in all 50 states.

“Energi has developed a unique approach to providing risk management and insurance where policyholders become shareholders and pool together with the best companies in an industry sector to reduce accidents and contain the cost of these accidents. The end result will equate into lower insurance cost for policyholders over the long term,” says Brian K. McCarthy, CEO of Energi Holdings.

“This program adds to our growing captive business targeting specific areas of the transportation industry, and represents our 13th group captive. Our philosophy is to change the insurance buying decision from simply a series of financial transactions into a partnership where the program’s members benefit by receiving the highest levels of service and controlling their insurance costs,” said Dave Michelson, president and CEO of National Interstate Corp., a specialty property and casualty insurance holding company with a niche orientation, focusing on the transportation industry and specializing in captive insurance programs.

Energi Programs are offered directly or through a select network of independent insurance agents and brokers.
