March 30, 2011

Insurance Journal magazine has been recognized for excellence in magazine publishing, receiving four nominations for Maggie Awards including for best publication and best iPad edition.

Known as the “Oscars” of the magazine industry, the Maggie Awards are presented by the Western Publishing Association.

One of Insurance Journal’s nominations is in the category of Best Business, Finance, Management & Retail publication.

“It feels great to be recognized for the commitment we have to our readers for excellence in reporting, writing and design. Our nomination for the best publication, in both trade and consumer categories, is especially great, considering the high-caliber of the other nominees,” said Andrew Simpson, vice president of content for Wells Publishing, the San Diego-based publisher of Insurance Journal.

Insurance Journal was also nominated for the iPad edition of its magazine.

“When it comes to new publishing technologies, Insurance Journal has garnered a reputation for staying ahead of the curve. So we’re thrilled to be nominated for our iPad edition,” said Julie Tinney, vice president of sales and marketing.

In just over five months, the Insurance Journal iPad app has had almost 5,500 downloads and is ranked fifth out of all iPad apps when “insurance” is searched, according to Mitch Dunford, CEO of Wells Publishing.

“We are very proud of our team for their dedication. Getting this kind of recognition is very nice. We are especially excited about our iPad app nomination. It’s another successful benchmark for us in our commitment to delivering content through every portal, technology and device available,” said Dunford.

Insurance Journal also garnered nominations for best trade publication feature article and best signed editorial.

Maggie nominees include other well-known and previous Maggie award-winning publications, Oracle magazine, California Lawyer, Police, Comstock’s, Entrepreneur and Exhibitor magazines.

Approximately 100 expert judges, drawn from all areas of the publishing industry, selected the nominees. Winners will be announced at the 60th Annual Maggie Awards event on April 29 in Los Angeles.
