Academy of Insurance Offers Free Videos as ‘Building Blocks’ for Insurance Education

November 14, 2017

Insurance Journal’s Academy of Insurance is offering micro-videos at no cost to insurance professionals through its new Building Blocks tool.

The Building Blocks tool supplies professionally created micro-videos for industry education and training teams that already have their own learning management systems (LMS). The extensive catalog of videos can be used in conjunction with classes and other educational materials to enhance, extend and even customize learning.

Insurance Journal interviews insurance industry experts, executives and thought leaders all the time and now their wisdom can become part of a learning experience. With these videos, users can create or supplement custom learning sessions,” said Patrick Wraight, Academy director.

According to Wraight, many insurance organizations want to add video to their training but find doing so can be expensive and time-consuming. Building Blocks is free to insurance organizations.

The videos are for educators to use in their training programs and learning management systems.

“This is one cost-effective way to make sure training keeps up with an insurance industry that is in a constant state of change, said Wraight.

The Academy’s Building Blocks library is updated regularly, as Insurance Journal produces new interviews nearly every week. “Building Blocks packages clips from these videos to give educators fresh perspectives they can mix into their training,” said Wraight. “With Building Blocks, we’re providing timely ideas and views from industry leaders and innovators.”

While video is a popular and effective tool for learning, Wraight stresses that educators need to consider which videos are best for their purposes. He offers these tips:

  • A video doesn’t need to be professionally created but it does need to be high quality.
  • The video should be on a timely topic, a surprising story, a compelling character, or any combination of the three to be helpful.
  • More isn’t necessarily better. It is not how many videos or how long they are that matters. It only matters that the video or videos tell a story, explain the topic, or introduce a character.
  • Videos have an expiration date. Video content is not evergreen, so they will have to be replaced eventually.
