Prince Andrew Settles Sexual Abuse Claim for Undisclosed Amount

By | February 15, 2022

Prince Andrew has settled a lawsuit against him by a woman who said he sexually abused her when she was a teenager at the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s Manhattan and Virgin Island properties.

The amount of the settlement with Virginia Giuffre has not been disclosed. Prince Andrew has agreed to make a “substantial donation” to Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. He has also vowed to support the fight against sex trafficking.

Prince Andrew does not admit guilt in the statement but acknowledges that Giuffre is a victim of sexual abuse and unfair public attacks.

Giuffre has claimed that during 2000–2002, beginning when she was 16, she was the victim of sex trafficking and abuse by Epstein. Her complaint says she was regularly abused by Epstein and was lent out by Epstein to other men for sexual purposes, one of whom was Prince Andrew.

Prince Andrew claimed that a 2009 agreement Giuffre had with Epstein released her claims against him and others. Andrew was scheduled to be questioned under oath by Giuffre’s lawyers in a few weeks.

The compete settlement statement filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan today reads:

Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew have reached an out of court settlement. The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms. Giuffre’s receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed). Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms. Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks. It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.
