North Texas Insurance Agent Takes on GEICO

October 12, 2006

“Bigger isn’t necessarily better,” says Texas independent insurance agent Al Boenker of the Al Boenker Insurance Agency. Boenker’s latest advertising puts him up against the gecko, making fun of the GEICO marketing icon, and giving consumers a reason to call him instead of GEICO.

“We had fun with the spots,” says Boenker. “We want people to make a local choice for insurance, and understand that big companies offer few options.”

The ads include Boenker comparing notes with a gecko costumed actor.

“I laughed a lot,” said Boenker. “We’re not taking ourselves too seriously here, but we do have a message that I hope gets delivered. GEICO can spend 50 Gagillion dollars a year on advertising to get people to call, but that does not make them the best choice for consumers.”

Boenker and the gecko pick on each other in the spots. “The out-takes make for some of the most fun in the campaign.”

The spots are live now at www.thanksal.com. They can also be seen on Google Video, YouTube, Yahoo Video, and many more.

“GEICO is an incredible opponent for local independent agents. We simply decided to compare ourselves with the largest insurance marketer in the United States. With over one hundred companies to offer our clients, we know what we have to offer is superior,” says Boenker.

The campaign is slated to air on various media in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Al Boenker Insurance Agency Inc. has been a local advertiser in the market for 34 years.
