Rainey Elected to Lead Texas Surplus Lines Association

The Texas Surplus Lines Association Inc. elected new officers and directors at its 52nd annual meeting held Nov. 3, 2008, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas.

The new officers are: President Paul Rainey, president of RSI International Inc., Arlington; Vice President Monte Stringer, executive vice president of U.S. Risk Inc., Dallas; and Secretary/Treasurer Todd Teitell, president of Colemont Insurance Brokers of Texas LP, Dallas.

New TSLA directors — elected for three-year terms — are: Michael Berry, Specialty Insurance Managers Inc.; Anna Kizer, Myron Steves; and Jace Westbrook, Quirk & Company.

Existing directors are: Cheryl Corson, RPS – Leicht General Agency; Lisa Heine, Swett & Crawford of Texas Inc.; Bill Staub, RISC Inc.; Tim Martin, Burlington Insurance Group; Andrea Nash, Markel Corp.; Jack Huff, Hull & Company Inc.; Joel Reed, AUI Inc.; and Robin Stough, Towerstone Inc.

The TSLA Executive Committee consists of the current officers and the immediate past president, Lana Parks, The Parks Group Inc.

TSLA’s “President’s Award” was presented to David Wetzel, Colemont Insurance Brokers of Texas LP. Davis has served as chair of the Membership Services Committee for many years and did an outstanding job during his time as chairperson.

The “Don King Committee Member of the Year” award was presented to Penny Standlee, Delta General Agency Corp. for her service on the Host Committee. This award is given out each year in memory of past member and friend, Don King.

The Avrohm Wisenberg scholarship recipients were Grace Maina, Crump Insurance Services Inc. and A.J. Perez – Leicht General Agency. Perez. received a CIC scholarship and Maina received a CISR scholarship. In addition, both recipients will receive a cash prize of $100 once their course is completed. The scholarships are donated to TSLA each year by The National Alliance .

RISC Inc. won the full ACSR scholarship donated to TSLA by the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas.
