Oklahoma Unemployment Dips to 5.3%

Oklahoma’s unemployment rate declined in the month of May.

The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported that unemployment in Oklahoma fell from 5.6 percent in April to 5.3 percent last month.

According to OESC statistics, there were 91,930 people unemployed in May. That’s down from 124,450 who were unemployed in May 2010.

The commission reported that 3,700 jobs were added in May, and five of the state’s 11 statewide super sectors reported job gains.

Trade, transportation and utilities posted the biggest loss of jobs in May, 1,900.

The national unemployment rate is 9.1 percent.
