MHBT’s Henry Named Top Insurance Agent in Texas

July 2, 2013

The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) announced that Dallas independent insurance agent Bill Henry, chairman and CEO of MHBT Inc., is the winner of the Drex Foreman Award presented at IIAT’s 116th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Dallas.

Named after Drex Foreman, who served as the chief executive director of IIAT for more than 30 years, the Drex Foreman Award is the highest honor IIAT bestows annually to an independent agent who has contributed greatly to the independent agency system.

Henry’s distinguished insurance career began in 1972 selling and servicing Fortune 1000 Accounts for Texas Employers’ Insurance Association, national accounts division. He became manager of National Accounts in 1979 and remained in this position until 1983 when McQueary & Henry Inc. was formed. He became president of the agency in 1987 and chairman when the agency merged with Bowles Troy & Associates in 1996. Today, MHBT is the largest insurance agency in Dallas and the second largest in the state.

MBHT has been constantly recognized as one of the top employers in Texas. In 2011, The Dallas Morning News named Henry as a top CEO for mid-sized companies in Dallas, and in 2012 awarded MHBT The Most Ethical Company Award. MHBT is a recipient of the Alfred P. Sloan award for business excellence six years running.

In addition to running one of the largest independent agencies in the country, Henry has served as a regional vice president of IMPACT, IIAT’s political action committee, for 14 years raising more than $600,000 in the Dallas area. He has worked with both his local and state associations representing the interests of independent agents in the area of workers’ compensation in the state. Henry has served on numerous insurance company advisory councils and has been a director on the board for the Council of Agents and Brokers.

As chairman of the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) for the Texas Southeast region, Henry and the IICF Texas Southeast board in one year raised more than $300,000 to fund charitable projects in the area.
