Detective Sues Texas City Over Sexual Harassment

An Austin, Texas police detective has sued the city saying she was retaliated against for complaining about sexual harassment while working in a unit that investigated human trafficking.

Detective Brenda Bermudez alleges in the lawsuit filed Monday in district court that male detectives showed her pornographic images on their computers and harassed her for preventing “unnecessary encounters between the male detectives and unclothed female victims or suspects.”

The lawsuit says Bermudez, who is a lesbian, was often asked by colleagues whether she would have sex with the women.

LawsuitShe was removed from the human trafficking unit after filing a discrimination complaint.

According to the Austin American-Statesman, the Austin police department declined to comment. City officials did not respond to the newspaper’s request for comment.

Bermudez also declined to comment.
