Louisiana Man Sentenced for Stealing Sister’s Insurance Settlement

November 7, 2016

A Lafayette, La., man has been sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison for stealing nearly $1.5 million from an insurance settlement his sister received while she was incapacitated.

News outlets report U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said a federal judge gave 37-year-old Kevin Ralph Andrus a 57-month sentence on one count of wire fraud.

Andrus, who pleaded guilty in March, stole the settlement funds his sister had gotten from a lawsuit related to an automobile accident that left her incapacitated. Andrus had been appointed as the curator for his sister’s estate following the crash.

Andrus’ sister later discovered that the funds had been transferred to Andrus’ own personal and business accounts although he promised to spend the money only on approved expenses that benefited his sister.
