North Carolina officials arrested a Linwood, N.C., insurance agent charging her with with five counts of embezzlement by an insurance agent and three counts of providing false statements on an insurance application.
Melissa Faye Crotts, 38, was processed at the Davidson County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond, according to Insurance Commissioner Jim Long.
The charges against Crotts stem from allegations that as owner of the Brooke Insurance franchise in Lexington, she embezzled an unknown amount of premiums from clients. These premiums allegedly were due for the clients’ insurance policies, but were never paid. In addition to the actions of the Department’s Investigations Division, the Agent Services Division has a scheduled meeting with Crotts to discuss the status of her license.
