Florida Peninsula Offers to Pick Up Home Policies Dropped by Nationwide

October 21, 2009

Florida Peninsula Insurance Co., a domestic property/ casualty company writing homeowners and condominium policies statewide, says it is prepared to insure Florida homeowners policies that Nationwide Insurance Co. of Florida will not renew beginning July of 2010.

Roger L. Desjadon, partner and CEO of Florida Peninsula, said the four year old company can handle the influx of new business.

“We thought it was important to do everything we can with our capacity and infrastructure to offer Nationwide’s 60,000 policyholders an alternative and choice once the company begins shedding policies in 2010,” he said.

Back in February, Florida Peninsula also offered to insure up to 100,000 State Farm Florida customers as that insurer withdraws from the state.

Peninsula said it ranks fifth among domestic writers and in the top 10 of all companies offering multi-peril homeowners insurance in the state. The company insures approximately 110,000 dwellings with annual premiums of $190 million. It markets through 2,000 independent agents. The company began writing in Florida in April 2005.
