Lemonade Squeezes into Tennessee Auto Market

Lemonade, an insurtech and property insurance company that has generated quite a bit of buzz – and questions – around the industry, announced it has launched auto insurance writing in Tennessee, its second state for auto.

The company, which calls itself an environmentally friendly, socially conscious digital insurer, said its policies provide lower rates for electric and hybrid vehicles and help fund reforestation efforts. It also offers telematics to measure how much and how safely policyholders drive.

Lemonade said it also offers renters, homeowners, pet, and life insurance, using artificial intelligence and behavioral economics.

GIC Underwriters Links with Employers for Comp

Miami-based GIC Underwriters announced it has contracted with Employers to allow agents to quote and bind workers’ compensation insurance for small businesses.

Agents can use their GIC login credentials to access the Employers workers’ comp products, the company said. GIC, a managing general agent and wholesale broker, also said it is now appointing agents in Florida, Georgia, Texas and Arizona.

Orchid Offers Openly for Wealthy Homeowners

Orchid Underwriters Agency, an independent managing general underwriter for catastrophe-exposed properties and high-net-worth personal lines, said it has contracted with Openly, a homeowners insurance platform.

The move will expand options for independent agents in 16 states, the Vero Beach-based Orchid said in a news release. The agency specializes in affluent clients with homes that have a replacement value of $400,000 to $3 million, for primary, secondary and rented dwellings.

Openly said it is a technology-based homeowners insurer, founded in 2017. It is headquartered in Boston and operates in multiple states.
