Nev. Commissioner Issues Warning on Unlicensed Insurance Company

April 22, 2005

Nevada Insurance Commissioner Alice A. Molasky-Arman is asking consumers to be on the alert about a company called “The Global Healings Society.” The company is offering health, property, auto and surety coverage via the Internet. The Global Healings Society is reportedly not licensed by the Division of Insurance to sell insurance.

Consumers who are approached by someone trying to sell an insurance plan under this name are encouraged to call Ben Gillard at the Division of Insurance by calling (775) 687-4270 in Carson City, or by calling toll-free anywhere else in Nevada by dialing (800) 992-0900, Carson City extension 4270, or by e-mail at insinfo@doi.state.nv.us.

“Consumers who purchase insurance from an unlicensed entity believe they have insurance when, in fact, they have no insurance at all,” Molasky-Arman said. “Unlike legitimate companies, there is no guarantee claims will be paid, nor is there a safety net in case the unlicensed entity becomes bankrupt.”

Because of the growing number of fraudulent insurers, Molasky-Arman encourages consumers to Stop, Call, and Check before writing the check before buying any insurance policy in order to avoid an insurance scam. Consumers can learn whether a company is licensed to sell insurance in Nevada by calling toll-free in Nevada by calling (888) 467-4195 or by logging on to www.nvinsurancealert.com.
