California Insurance Wholesalers Association Honors Anderson

February 8, 2011

The California Insurance Wholesalers Association has honored David F. Anderson, chairman of Anderson & Murison, with its Wholesale Industry Award.

Anderson was a founding president of CIWA from 1991 to 1993. He served on the board of the directors of the organization from founding until 2010.

He was one of only two individuals to serve twice as chairman of the Surplus Line Association of California, in 1974 and again in 1982. And he served as president of the American Association of Managing General Agents in 1981. He served on AAMGA’s executive committee from 1976 to 1982. And he served as a board member of the Surplus Line Coalition in 1993.

Anderson has been a California licensed property/casualty agent since 1950, and a property/casualty broker since 1953. He has held his surplus line license since 1967.

“Without Dave Anderson, the face of the wholesale insurance industry would not be what it is today,” said Hank Haldeman, executive vice president and director of The Sullivan Group, who presented the award.

Prior to founding Anderson & Murison, Anderson worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., The Rule Company Insurance Brokers, General Insurance Consultants and Commercial Security Insurance Exchange. He has served as an expert witness regarding the surplus lines industry, the wholesale insurance marketing system and the duties and operations of a surplus line broker.

“For every major initiative to promote or defend the wholesale industry and surplus lines in this part of the country for the past 30 years, you’ll find Dave Anderson,” said Jerry Sullivan, chairman of Gerald J. Sullivan & Associates, the focus company for all members of The Sullivan Group.
