Train Kills Man Standing On Tracks South Of San Francisco

January 24, 2012

A commuter train south of San Francisco, Calif. has hit and killed a man as he stood on the tracks.

San Mateo County Transit spokeswoman Christine Dunn said the northbound Caltrain hit the man in Sunnyvale at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Dunn says the man’s identity has not yet been determined. She says preliminary evidence suggests he put himself in front of the train intentionally.

None of the 79 people aboard the train were hurt. They were picked up by a special express train about an hour later.

Trains began running in both directions using the south side tracks shortly after 5 p.m., and tracks began operating in both directions by 7 p.m.

Dunn says there was no effect on the special train service for fans attending the San Francisco 49ers game.
