LOS ANGELES August 21, 2024 – The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping communities and enriching lives, is making a mid-year fundraising push as it strives to surpass its goal of $50 million in total grants awarded to nonprofit partners to mark its 30th anniversary in 2024. Along with surpassing $50 million in total grants to nonprofit partners focused on children at risk, food and housing insecurity, veterans, people in need and more, IICF has provided 3 million meals to vulnerable children and families across the US and UK since 2020.

Founded in 1994 in San Francisco by Bruce Basso and Jim Woods, both of whom remain active members of IICF leadership, IICF was formed as a way for the insurance industry and its leaders to unite and collectively give back to the communities they serve. “The vision of our founders continues today,” said Wendy Houser, Chief Wholesale Officer at Markel and Chair of the IICF International Board of Governors. “IICF has grown from one office on the West Coast to soon-to-be seven divisions, nine chapters and 800 insurance professionals dedicated to making a positive impact by serving on IICF boards and committees across the US and UK.”

Throughout 2024, IICF has been and continues to celebrate 30 years of impact and the insurance industry’s legacy of giving by raising funds in the fight against childhood hunger. According to recent statistics*, 1 in 5 children in the US and UK are struggling with food insecurity, a total of more than 16 million children missing meals. Chronic hunger adversely affects the physical and mental health of children, their learning potential and more. IICF has identified 11 nonprofit partners focused on food insecurity that will benefit from IICF 30th Anniversary Grants.

“For three decades the IICF has been working to positively influence and improve the communities where we do business,” said Jodie Kaufman Davis, H.W. Kaufman Group Executive Vice President and Chair of the IICF 30th Anniversary Committee. “This year the IICF’s 30th campaign prioritizes the fight against childhood food insecurity. We encourage insurance professionals to join us in making, at minimum, a $30 donation to support this effort. IICF can deliver an average of five meals for every $1 contributed and together, we can collectively make a positive difference through this industrywide campaign.”

To date, approximately 400 individual insurance professionals have contributed to IICF’s 30th anniversary campaign, along with senior industry executives donating $1,000 or more as IICF Children’s Champions. Donors of $30 or more receive an annual IICF Global Membership, which provides exclusive volunteering and networking opportunities for philanthropically motivated insurance professionals.

IICF will release a report later this year sharing more information about its community impact, including major milestones and an analysis of how IICF initiatives have benefitted those in need and its partners, along with an industrywide giving outlook. IICF will also release its second Philanthropic Index, an annual summary of collective industrywide giving and volunteerism.
